Matumaini Child Care Organization (MCC Org) is a non-governmental, non-religious, and non-profit making organization that cares for orphaned children and other children living with difficulties. It was founded in October of 2006 by several community members who recognized the undeniable need for its existence. The centerpiece of the organization is the Matumaini Child Care Center (hereafter referred to as Matumaini). Matumaini, meaning ‘Hope’ in Swahili, is located in Rau Village, about 3 km outside the town of Moshi, Tanzania, but the children collectively come from several villages located throughout the Kilimanjaro Region. There are currently 20 children living at the center, twelve boys and eight girls, ranging in age from six years to fifteen years. They are provided with three well-balanced meals per day, education, school uniforms and supplies, a clean and safe place to sleep, sanitary latrines, medical care, 24-hour supervision, and a playful, secure environment. |
